Why did you become interested in fitness?
Back in December of 2000, I received numerous compliments that I was well suited genetically for fitness or bodybuilding. At first I thought nothing of it, but as I continued to receive these comments (from acquaintances, strangers) I thought perhaps I should look into it. The following January I hired a personal trainer, and haven’t looked back since. I absolutely love my new hobby (aka lifestyle).

When did you first start working out?
I initially joined the local gym in 1998 only because my course in college required me to. I had no idea what I was doing; I was a typical cardio junkie, thinking that an hour of cardio a day would make me skinny. When my course ended I decided to continue with my membership, as I was no longer doing dance or gymnastics. I continued with my hour of cardio each day, and lifting “mickey mouse” weights until 2001, when my trainer showed me the light.

What other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
I’m not the typical sports enthusiast. I’ve spent most of my life training for competition in either dance, gymnastics, or bodybuilding, so my reason for activity has always been goal-related. I can’t explain my lack of interest in recreational sports or activities, though my theory is that I could be so goal-oriented that I just don’t see the point in throwing around a football or frisbee, even if it’s just for fun. I’d simply rather be cuddling on the couch with my special guy and a glass of wine (assuming I’m not contest dieting). However, I don’t mind bike riding or roller blading, though I’ve been known to use street poles (or the ground - whichever comes first) for stopping.

What are your goals within the fitness industry?
Right now I’m focused on gaining more exposure, as I’d like to have the cover of a magazine. A couple page spread would be cool, too. I’ve recently begun writing fitness-related articles here and there and would like to continue with that, as I very much enjoy writing, even more so about something that I’m passionate about. I’d also like to continue being a role-model and inspiration for others. Virtually nothing beats the feeling of having someone tell you that you’re their inspiration.

Additional Notes:
Though I only started two and a half years ago, my journey so far in the fitness industry has been tremendous. I’ve learned so much, and met so many wonderful people along the way. I can only look forward to what the future may hold for me. A heartfelt thank you to my friends and family for all your continued support and encouragement. I wouldn’t be here without you.
