Career
Highlights
My career has just started. I won my 1st and only show so far.
I got 1st out of 5 in the novice middleweight class at the Bill
Pearl Classic in November of 2001. I'm preparing now for the Oregon
State show in June 2002, and do not know yet if I'll be in the
middleweight or heavyweight class.
Why
did you become interested in fitness?
I have always admired women bodybuilders. Ever since I can remember
I have wanted to have muscle! I remember watching a contest when
I was about 7, and telling my Dad," I want to look like that
when I grow up!" I really got into bodybuilding though, after
I met my husband. He does it too, and is such a great support.
I don't know if I could do it without him.
I
give ALOT of credit to women who prepare for contest that have
kids and husbands who continue to eat junk food right in front
of them. I have very little will power, so I need someone to keep
me in check. We have alot of fun training together too. We push
each other really hard, and it's great to spend the time together.
I
love Valentina Chepiga's body right now. She has great symmetry,
and definition. Who is also beautiful and ultra feminine.
When
did you first start working out?
I started working out about 8 years ago, but started to get really
serious about it about 5 years ago. At first I had no idea what
I was doing! I was "skinny fat". All I ate was carbs,
and "fat free" everything. I would eat a whole box of
mac and cheese, as long as I didn't make it with butter! Geez!
And I had no idea what was going on with weights. I just did alot
of cardio. Now I hardly have to do any cardio unless I am really
trying to get down low in bodyfat.
What
other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
My husband and I love to go for long bike rides, and hikes with
our dog. We also enjoy roller blading. We go for a long walk almost
every night after dinner. Our walks at night are good for our
relationship as well as our health. It forces us to talk about
our day, rather then zoning out in front of the TV.
What
are your goals within the fitness industry?
My goal is to one day go pro. I know I have a long way to go being
so young. But I keep my hopes high, and think positive. I look
at Jennifer McVicar who is my age, and pro already. Who knows?!
Short term goals are to do the Jr. Nationals next year.
Additional Notes
My husband and I are part owners of a gym, and I am the head trainer
and nutritional consultant. Having clients that look up to me
keeps me motivated all the time. I feel like I have the best job
in the world. I love my clients, and my gym! Having a positive
mental attitude is 100% of doing well in shows. I always try to
stay focused, but have fun at the same time.
