Why
did you become interested in fitness?
I became interested in fitness because of my father. He
has been the biggest inspiration in my life regarding fitness. I
was 25 years old and out of shape. I watched him go through
an AMAZING transformation. His dedication and discipline
couldn’t be touched. Being that I am competitive in
nature as well as a perfectionist, I followed suit. I haven’t
looked back since.
When
did you first start working out?
I’ve always been active. I played handball in the
streets of NYC as a kid, played in on all-boys little league
baseball team as a kid because my Dad was the coach, etc. I
was also a competitive tennis player and shotokan karate athlete
for awhile during my teen years. In high school I was much
more involved in music and art so athletics fell by the way-side. It
really wasn’t until I was 25 years old that I got serious
about it. I went from 150lbs and out-of-shape to 125lbs
and looking great in 14 weeks the summer of 1998. I don’t
think I’ve gone more than a week without training since
then. It had such a profound impact on me that I changed
my career because of it.
What
other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
I
am an avid rock climber + snowboarder. Anytime I get
the chance, I’m heading up to the ‘Gunks (upstate
NY) to climb and in the winter I do whatever I can to get to
fresh powder. I also like trying to surf as I’ve
spent A LOT of time in the Hawaiian islands (although I’m
not that great at it). I’ve also recently gotten
into Russian kettlebell training because my boyfriend is
an elite trainer in this discipline as well
as Renegade Training with the amazing,
Coach John Davies.
What
are your goals within the fitness industry?
My goals are to continue to inspire others to get themselves
outside and physical, to continue to push my body to the limits,
to live life to the fullest whether that means taking on the
challenges of a family or skydiving to see what it feels like
to free fall thousands of feet, to continue educating myself
and progressing and to be the best that I can be. If that
earns me a pro card someday, great. If not, I’ll
still be just as happy.
Additional Notes
An interesting bit of information about me is that I am also
an accomplished songwriter. I have played piano, guitar
and sang for the majority of my life having produced my own 6-song
CD, as well as participated on 2 compilation CD’s. I’ve
also had my music in an independent release written and directed
by 2-time Emmy Award Winner, Mike Stivala, which debuted at the
2000 Tribeca Film Festival in NYC. I continue to write
and record to this day. For more information, visit: www.octoberdaydream.com
