Why did you become interested in fitness?
I became interested in fitness while still in college at the University of Texas at Austin. I noticed only one girl in the free weight room while numerous guys hogged the machines. I decided to be the other girl, and the very next day I sauntered right into the weight room, asked for help from what turned out to be a nationally ranked collegiate powerlifter, and the rest is history. I trained like a powerlifter for several years, which meant eating and lifting with the same exuberance - both were hard and heavy. I built a foundation that has helped me to gain speed in the NPC, for I build muscle mass very quickly. I would work out just as hard and eat healthy even if I wasn't competing, so I decided to put the energy to good use. I also love being on stage.

The most important added benefit of working out, besides being healthy and strong, is the self confidence that I have attained by meeting my goals in the weight room. It is through this rise in self esteem that I have been able to motivate and inspire other women to work out and even compete.

What other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
I love to run outside when the morning sun is rising and the breeze is light and airy and the bugs are still hidden away. Once in a while, I'll partake in a game of basketball, but I mostly rely on the gym equipment to keep me in shape. I thrive on the weights.

What are your goals within the fitness industry?
I have just finished a personal training certification course and wish to help others to learn to take better care of themselves and become healthy. I enjoy helping other women prepare for competitions, but most of all, I want to focus on teenagers. After six years of teaching high school English, I noticed the eating and exercise habits of my students, and after watching them constantly fall asleep and lose energy day after day, I knew there had to be a correlation between a diet that relied on junk food from the vending machines and sodas. I want to teach adolescents to take care of themselves and gain pride in their bodies, since these are the temples that will carry them to their goals in life.

Additional Notes
I want to eventually get a masters degree in literature; I have not chosen a genre yet. This will allow me to teach at the college level. I also love to write and would like to publish a fiction novel. I have published an article and a poem and have written several articles for various websites. My love for the written word is at a dead heat with my love for working out.

I am currently available for photo shoots and am seeking sponsorship opportunities.
