Why
did you become interested in fitness?
I have always been athletic and played sports, but when I seriously
started training, I realized I could be one of the fitness girls
I always read about and admired. When I heard about the new figure
division in the NPC, I decided I was going to do my first show.
I worked hard and it paid off.
Starting
from scratch, with no background experience, my body fat was an
average 24% at 155 pounds and my main activity was jogging at
least 3 - 4 nights a week. I lacked any kind of muscle tone or
strength at all in my upper body. A single push up was difficult.
I knew if I could write down some goals and a definite plan to
achieve these goals I could do whatever I set out to accomplish.
I
went from a size 10 to a 4-6 within four months. It was amazing.
I was wearing jeans that were size 5 (still am!). I only lost
20 pounds, but the shape of my body changed. I lost inches, while
still carrying a lot of muscle.
I
won my first show with a 1st place title! 4 months later I placed
1st again in a state level competition! In my very first year
of competing, through trial and error, I have managed to accomplish
my first goal in fitness of going to the Nationals with the NPC
coming up in August 2002.
When
did you first start working out?
I have always been very athletic and played sports. When I was
21 I began running; I continued with that for a few years and
the competitive side of me I had kept suppressed for years came
out with a vengeance. I ran half-marathons for causes like battered
children and women, cancer and the like.
My
competitive bug came back in the form of the new popular growing
arena of figure competitions for women. Now I truly feel this
is my time to give and receive in the fitness realm.
What
other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
I have very little time to myself but when I get a chance I love
to swim, bike, run, & rollerblade.
What
are your goals within the fitness industry?
I am a personal trainer. I love my job because I truly enjoy helping
my clients feel good physically and helping them achieve a healthy
lifestyle. I feel fulfilled everyday through my work. I am here
to help others achieve their fitness goals. I also am a spokesperson
& do promotional marketing for a large nutrition company.
I love this because I get to meet so many people and help them
learn about health.
I love health and fitness, every aspect of it. I am fascinated
of the physiology behind every exercise I do and exactly what
effect what I eat or drink has on my body. I never lose sight
of my goal. My positive mental attitude helped me achieve my expectations
and will continue to do so.
I
believe that the perfect balance in life is to be healthy in mind,
body, and spirit. This will give you the joy, peace, and happiness
that everyone seeks out of this life we were given to enjoy. Embrace
it and live every moment to the fullest. Life is a gift and we
are all blessed to be here so it is important to give thanks daily
for all that we do have and use the gifts that were bestowed upon
us to make a difference in the world.
I
truly believe you can do whatever you put your mind to. You create
in your mind what you want to happen. I will never give up and
will continue to promote fitness to all people through my own
experiences and training. I will reach out to all those who want
to live a healthy lifestyle, and a long, fulfilling, energetic
life.
