| The
Nova USA Championships debuted The Ultimate Fitness Skills
- a new athletic event added to the NOVA FITNESS FEDERATION
Competitions. The event -- 6 stations to be performed in
one-minute intervals with one minute rest intervals, consisting
of the standing long jump (best of three), pull-ups, pushups,
sit-ups, steps up and a 40-yard shuttle run -- was, as far
as the competitors were concerned, a winning addition to
an already popular fitness but unusual competitive sport.
Now
for a while the NOVA FITNESS FEDERATION was being slammed
for not fairly or objectively choosing the best winner. But
now with this new addition it seems the tables are turning
for the better. KIM HILL, co-founder, brain stormed to create
a solid event combination for ensuring there was no question
(in any one's eyes) that the best competitor was awarded
the winning trophy. As a result of the added Fitness Skills
event,
the overall winner needs to display 2/3rd athleticism, be
competent on both the Obstacle Course, showing strength,
agility and
speed and the Fitness Skills (possess enough stamina to successfully
proceed through the fitness skills) and 1/3rd is attributed
to the aesthetic component. Eliminated is the idea that "the
best looking competitor", or the "most popular",
or the one with the biggest "T's", is predetermined
to win. This weekend showed that the new look Nova Fitness
was down right fair.
So
it is fair to say that NANNETTE HOLT deserved to win the
title.
For
the Swimwear Round, HOLT placed 2nd. Then the next morning,
HOLT shot through the course and for both
heats
clocked the
fastest times of the day to win 1st Place Obstacle Course.
Following that event, with just over one hour to regain
her composure, HOLT systematically out jumped, repped,
stepped
and ran her competitors by winning the Fitness Skills
Round too. HOLT had firmly landed in the Winners Circle
Top 10.
(The Winners Circle is determined by calculating the
best of the
three combined event scores.)
But,
the competition wasn't completely in her grasp until the
Final Round -- the evening
gown portion and Q&A -- was
over. After each Top 10 competitor had answered a question,
received a 4th score from that, awards were presented.
While HOLT did not get 1st place for her answer, she had
secured
a high enough position pre-question round to capture
the win.
