Why did you become interested in fitness?
I was about 16 years old when my boyfriend (now husband) brought a copy of Muscle & Fitness on a day trip we were taking. As I thumbed through the pages I saw Cory Everson and was impressed by how beautiful and athletic she was. As a teenager, I was always as a little self-conscience about my athletic body because it was different than all the other girls.

I continue to strive to stay fit because it makes me feel good and I enjoy it. I have a lot of energy and confidence as a result of working out and most importantly, I won’t miss out on any fun activities because I am too out of shape.

When did you first start working out?
It seems like I’ve been working out all my life! Participating in organized sports early on in my life taught me a lot about conditioning. After I finished college, I still wanted to stay fit, so I joined the local gym. I fell into this new routine rather quickly and really enjoyed the atmosphere. This was a natural transition for me from organized team conditioning, since I had taken a weight training class in college to learn the fundamentals and could also apply what I had learned from my training as a collegiate athlete.

My fitness training has continued to evolve as I learn more by reading articles and talking to other athletes and trainers.

What other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
During the hot Arizona summers, my husband and I try to get up to the mountains for camping and hiking or to Southern California for Snorkeling. We are currently becoming scuba certified and are planning on testing our skills in Cozumel, where the water is warm!!!

During the winter, we break out our ATV’s and go riding in the desert and the dunes. I have a Honda 400 EX that I have become very intimate with (thus the fading bull’s-eye scar from the muffler on my right quad). I’ve also had a few wrecks, but nothing to major to keep me from trying to get higher on the jumps!

I also can’t turn down a pick-up game of basketball or just shooting hoops.

What are your goals within the fitness industry?
I plan on competing in more figure competitions this year, including the NPC Nationals this summer.

I am currently working with Pro-Lab as a Team Pro-Lab member, which includes putting on product demos at GNC and other health food stores. I enjoy getting to interact with the customers and answer any questions they may have or just share my experiences in my quest for physical fitness.

In addition to my full time job, I have been pursuing other interests such as picking up a few clients for personal training and fitness modeling.
