Why did you become interested in fitness?
I suffered from depression in college and gained a lot of weight. My life was spiraling out of control so I picked myself up and found a gym in Jackson, Mississippi where I attended college. I started with cardio then I hired a trainer. I was looking at an issue of Oxygen magazine one day and came across a fitness contest. I dreamed of one day being in that great of shape but it hardly seemed like a reality. The magazine also rated Colorado as the #2 state in health and fitness. After becoming certified to teach aerobics and seeing my body change I wanted to learn more.

I picked up after graduation and moved to Denver where I got a job at 24 Hour Fitness. There I met a trainer who had competed in a Natural Bodybuilding Show. He taught me a lot about nutrition, motivated me and made me believe that I to could compete one day. I married him 1 year later and we opened a gym. 1 year after that I competed in my 1st fitness and figure contest placing 2nd and then went on to compete at the national level. Every day I am blessed with the opportunity to give back to my clients, teach them how to live a fit and healthy lifestyle and to share my story!

When did you first start working out?
I was very active in high school and played volleyball, basketball and I was on the swim team my whole life. It was not until my senior year in college when depression and being over weight led me to start hitting the weights. It changed my body completely.

What other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
I have competed in 4 triathalons, I mountain bike and hike with my husband. Last year we rode 24 hours of Moab. It was the most challenging ride I have ever done at 2am when my head lamp went out.

What are your goals within the fitness industry?
I hope to receive my pro card in 2006. With this status I will be able to continue to motivate and teach women about nutrition and living a fit and healthy lifestyle. I would love to travel and give seminars telling my story and changing lives for the better.
