Why
did you become interested in fitness?
After hanging up my hat with gymnastics I continued to compete
in numerous sports while I was living in Australia. My family
and I moved to San Diego in 2000 and I continued my education
and competeing in Aerobics. I always had a dream of being
a professional athlete but at my age I couldn't really start
something new. Sport Aerobics just wasn't very big here
in America but one day while I was watching television
I saw a fitness show. I thought I could do that! I had danced
my whole life, had a great gymnastics background and I loved
to perform. At the age of 16 I was already in college studying
exercise physiology and psychology so I also had a love and knowlege
of nutrition. After a near death car accident in 2001 where I
rolled 450ft down into a canyon strapped into the back of
an open air truck, I was told that if I wasn't in such good
shape I wouldn't be alive today. This prompted me into pursuing
my dreams as I had a new appreciation for life and didn't want
to waste a day.
When
did you first start working out?
I have been active my whole life as you can see but I started
lifting weights when I was 13 when I was in rehab from gymnastics.
What
other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
I love to go hiking in the canyons, taking my dog to the beach,
yoga, boxing, hip-hop dancing, kayaking, horseriding. Fitness
should be fun so even when I'm training for a show I like to
mix it up and get outside for a day.
What
are your goals within the fitness industry?
My ultimate goal in the competitive fitness industry is to turn
pro. My rewards from competing are not the trophies, but
the feeling of personal accomplishment and being up on that stage
performing. It's the other competitors that ask for my help or
advice, or my clients that call me their. The day to day journey
is a personal reward but that time on the stage is to inspire
and entertain others. I want to be able to help others feel
good about themselves too. I feel physical fitness stems from
the inside out and I preach that health is ultimately the foundation
of everything from relationships, work and day to day interactions.
My ultimate goal is to educate others about living healthy
along with my boyfriend and trainer Tony Dodd. Tony is a nationally
ranked bodybuilder and as a team we want to target health
education in children.
