2000 & 2001 Fitness America South Beach Pageant - 2nd Runner
Up
1999, 2000, 2001 Miss Fitness New Brunswick
Why
did you become interested in fitness?
I became interested in fitness after seeing a show on ESPN. I
had an extensively background with cheerleading and gymnastics
and after having these 2 sports end upon completing university,
I was really bored working out "just for the fun of it".
I need more of goal to strive towards, and I was having the 'competition'
itch once again. I always enjoyed being in the spotlight, but
being on stage in a bikini was definitely a challenge.
When
did you first start working out?
'Working out' has always been a part of my life. I come from a
very athletic background and have participated in various sports,
team and individual. Working out with weights and the cardio machines,
really only started about 3 years ago. When you start working,
after university finding team sports to keep you in shape is quite
difficult. But I am lucky in the sense that I had a 'base' to
start with, as my physique has been quite muscular all my life.
It is losing the weight for a show that is continuously a challenge.
What
other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
Besides working out, I enjoy rollerblading, running, touch football
and the odd time I participate in an aerobics class.
What
are your goals within the fitness industry?
My goals within the fitness industry have been changing constantly.
At first, I wanted to be famous, see myself in magazines and articles,
and have a sponsor willing to support me in what I do. And I thought
that being in contests would have someone contact me immediately
after they saw my performance and offer me all these things. I
realize now that this is not going to happen
Right now, I just want to enjoy the competitions, the girls and
if these others things happen to come along ...great... if not,
I still have my current employment (I am a teacher of grade 8
and 9 math). Fitness is a way of life for me. I feel better, I
look better, I react to others better when I am taking care of
myself.
Additional Notes
If any girl is deciding to enter a fitness contest, I recommend
starting from the lowest level of competition. Start with a local
competition, you know...the ones with only 1 to 5 girls in them.
This way you will know more for the next level competition. There
are so many things that you have to organize on the day of the
show. Your tanning, your diet, how to wear your makeup, hair,
does your costume stand out, does it look good on stage, how is
your stance on stage in your swimsuit? There are so many little
things that could go wrong, that starting your first contest with
a really big show, can end of being a really big disappointment
and perhaps you will not enjoy competing.
