Elena Seiple hangs up the posing suit

After yet another pro card fell just outside her grasp, NPC bodybuilder Elena Seiple has decided to call it quits. After finishing second at the USAs, a contest in which many message board pundits felt she should have won, Elena recently placed 3rd at the NPC Nationals after adjusting her conditioning to the judges preference at the earlier competition. After years of competing at the National level and becoming a fan favorite, she commented that some well-earned rest is on the docket in the near future.

But wait, there's no reason to shed a tear for Elena.. as she plans to compete in powerlifting and strongwoman competitions in the near future. We wish her the best of luck in all her future endeavors.

I am sorry to see that another great competitor has been practically driven from the competition arena, and this smacks of Drorit Kernes' departure from competitive bodybuilding in 1998. I wrote a letter about that---and my disgust with the judging inconsistencies---to Musclemag International who published that letter in their 200th issue, those of you who read that in early 1999 will recall that, there appears to be too many multiple standards for physique arts especially with regards to competition.
I said it before and I just said it again: Judges need to get their act together and seek out the most fit competitors, and the best "built" competitors as well, "built" meaning like Elena Seiple, Karla Nelsen, or Mary Lado, NOT "built" meaning Anna Nicole Smith, Barbie Leigh, or Pamela Anderson.
There are still LOTS of people who STILL love Elena and hope for her to return to competitive physique arts in future.
If I were a judge I would certainly NOT try to demand muscular women meet MY standards...but see if they were setting new standards!
